More than ten years ago in 2004 I was traveling to Sydney, Australia. I travel not on family vacations or holidays, but on work. I’m on a software consulting project (don’t want to go into too much detail on the fun subject), and this is my second trip to the beautiful town. I had previously spent three months in Sydney, but due to the pressures of a job-related project I could never explore the town, nor did I ever get to meet anyone there. So this time I wanted to get around town and make friends there. Little did I know that I would soon meet and make friends with a tree in Australia!
The Yahoo messenger was in vogue in those days and for some searching, I was able to connect with a girl. She is from Sydney, appearing older than I am, but fun chatting. So when I told her I was going to her hometown for a week and I was looking for a friend there, playing.
I stayed at the Travelodge Macquarie North Ryde Hotel, near the Macquarie Shopping Center. Once I got here and joined the job I updated her and we set an hour on a Saturday morning to meet. He came to meet me on a Saturday morning at my hotel, dressed in black from head to toe. She also had dark hair and wore a dark shade on her eyes. We met in the lobby and after we got to know him, he offered to drive around me in the suburbs of Sydney which I could easily agree to .. As I was riding in his car, I seemed to notice a small sticker in the back of the car. It’s red “My other car is the broom !!”
The contents of his car had everything .. from used coke cans to heaps to cigarette smoke in ashtray. There was plenty of paper, clothing items, pillows, extra bedding, a towel and several small cardboard boxes in the back. The front seat is full of ash and the car is also rising in smoke. In addition, side-mirrors have cobwebs on it. Car wash !!!
North beaches, Sydney.
The thought kept looking for answers as we started chatting about time, then about town, then about Australia, then about India (my country) and then about my religion – Hinduism. He says he knows about Kali and Krishna (who are Hindu Gods and Goddesses) and says that he also worships them. Things do not match.
“Are you a Christian?” I asked confused.
“No, I’m a Wiccan. Do you know what Wicca is?” He asked me.
“Well, no,” I replied.
And he explains the part of Pagan religion that was in vogue before the advent of Christianity. The religion connected with King Arthur and his Excalibur, and Sir Lancelot and the round table of the Knights. He explained how magicians and magicians were given various explanations as the power of Christianity and began to spread throughout Europe and the European colonies.
“Wizards are good people. They love it. Harry Potter is a wizard and everyone loves him. But aren’t witches good?” he asked.
“I think so,” I replied with no idea why.
She smiled and told me that theirs was a mother religion and that these were women with the best knowledge in society, in science, religion, medicine and science. They were the pillars of the order in the Wiccan period and people applauded them in times of need. But when it came to Christianity, it was difficult to change these erudite and knowledgeable women and so Christianity gave them a bad name. This is why these wizards are often injured and thus lose over time. “Joan of Arc is an example, who was burned at the Cross for not conforming to religious doctrine before” “he said.
We then continued to drive along the beaches and beaches of North Sydney. We spent the whole day walking and driving around with turquoise blue water and white sand around the beach. We separated for some lunch at the chicken and cola burgers around 2pm. We talk about our customs, traditions, society and religious views. She is just as interested in learning about our traditions as I am about her. This is new to me.
As the afternoon approached, he asked me if he wanted to drop me off at my hotel or would I like to go to his place for a little refreshment and then he could drop off. After I fell in love with her and her life I immediately agreed to visit her place. We reached his house about 15 minutes from Coogie Beach.
His home is just a few steps from the motorcycle road in a remote area. The stairs leading to her main door were adorned with tiny dolls and figures of toads, bats, rabbits and cats. Some of them made an automatic sound as we went along. As he opened his front door, a pair of cats and a puppy ran to him and began to meow and break his foot. I immediately heard the screams of cockatoos, as they all knew their mistress was returning home. The house had a strange heavy odor, a burning incense and a fumigator tossing fumes from one corner. The little foyer had a big glass box and I noticed something inside. A corner of his foyer also had a large mannequin on ISIS (the goddess of Egypt, as she later taught me !!). There are tons of books on a big book shelf on one side of the hall. I look at it because I naturally like books. There are numerous collections of magic, spells, love potions, divine connections, spirituality, magic, psychic prophecy, charms, love, spirituality and Wiccan worship. I’m just interested and intrigued by this new world of science, science and wizardry. I can’t stop myself from exploring some of them.
“What are you going to do with all these kinds of books?”, I asked him in my confusion.
“I am a Witch”, he smiled.
That’s how I met Carole Chapman, one of the most amazing people I have ever met. In the coming days and months when I met him, I saw him as a very warm, loving and kind person. She was very knowledgeable, kind, in tune with the world around her and a person she had never known. Over the next few months in Sydney, I learned about his friends, his team, his community and the witchcraft they all made for the betterment of their lives. I know about his religion and the false stigma it brings to the Christian world. He was one of the few direct students of the famous Wiccan teacher, Alex Sanders, who starred in the movie “The Wickerman”.
Sadly Carole left us all for Summerland in July 2011. Her Facebook profile appears under the link to my Blog. He is a Wicca authority, and Wiccan tradition as far as I know. and targeted Queen Witch of Australia. He was also a dear friend of mine.
An interview with High-Priestess Carole Chapman appears in my Blog Entry.
